The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution ...

[edit]

The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution (1868) granted African Americans the rights of citizenship. However, this did not translate into the ability to vote. Black voters were systematically turned away from many state polling places. Even after Congress passed the Fifteenth Amendment in 1870, states still found ways to prevent black men from voting. A major goal of the civil rights movement of the twentieth century was to resecure and protect full voting rights for all Black citizens. 192.12.146.218 (talk) 17:24, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Two quotes don't seem substantiated by their sources

[edit]

First, that "In 1870, a federal grand jury determined that the Klan was a "terrorist organization". That quote doesn't actually appear in the book its sourced from, which is here: https://archive.org/details/whiteterrorkuklu0000trel/ In fact, I'm not sure the statement is correct at all. I found that statement in many places on the internet, none of which had a source besides this one. So it seems like people may be copying it from this article assuming it's true.

Also, "The United States government considers the Third Klan to be a "subversive terrorist organization"." That isn't suggested by any of the four sources given for it. I could be wrong though. Somarain (talk) 06:17, 25 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
